We are honored to contribute to the Mother's Day for Peace Event hosted by the Peace Education Center. We affirm our commitment to peace and justice, and our performance is a celebration of unity and understanding, rooted in compassion for ALL peoples and faiths.

While the concept of Mother’s Day has devolved into a spectacle of cards, flowers and brunches, it’s forgotten that the original intent of that special day was to promote peace.

In fact, the original Mother’s Day was initiated by Julia Ward Howe (she of Battle Hymn of the Republic fame) around 1870, hoping it would be a day for mothers to campaign for an end to war following the carnage of the American Civil War. Keeping current wars in mind, specifically the Israel-Hamas War, the Lansing Area Peace Education Center will hold a special Mother’s Day event/fundraiser on Friday, May 10.

This event will feature Austin Kaufmann and Tamiko Rothhorn, the creative core of local indie folk band, The Dangling Participles, and a special guest appearance by an actress portraying Julia Ward Howe.
